Community Service

Clarice Wilson Garden Club believes in giving back to our community. In addition to maintaining our award winning Plant It Pink Therapy garden which continues to give comfort to cancer patients and their families, each year our club finds some way to help our community. For 2022-2023 year we made lasagna planters and gave them to our beloved past president, Pam Williams. Pam was very sick and later passed away. It was a wonderful project to bring joy to Pam in her final days as she watched subsequent blooming flowers in her planters.
Our community service projects for 2024-2025 include:

   Participating and promoting Arbor Day with the city of Greenville on December 1st.
   Helping to decorate the local historical landmark, The Kilgore Lewis House for Christmas, a holiday tradition for the city of Greenville.
   Bringing joy to seniors in a nursing home facility with bouquets.
   Collaborating with Friends of the Reedy River with a "weed-pull" to help control invasive species in our local ecosystems.
   Work with local scout troops to teach youth about gardening, pollinators and sustainability.
   Hold a Veteran's Day Service at the CWGC Blue Star Marker at Herdklotz Park.
   Encourage Plant America NGC Initiative and Butterfly GCSC initiative by creating an educational butterfly garden at a local school

Education

Clarice Wilson Garden Club encourages education for our members in areas of

   Horticulture
   Landscaping and Floral design
   Environmental and Conservation interests

We organize field trips, work-shops and educational speakers, and encourage our members to join and participate in other organizations such as Master Gardeners or become accredited experts. It is important that we have knowledge which we can share or pass down to the youth.

Our club believes in leaving a legacy for future generations. We sponsor and encourage youth in all gardening interests through

   Field trips to our gardens
   State garden club youth programs
   College scholarships
   Educational camps

Scholarships

Each year Clarice Wilson Garden Club contributes to five Garden Club of South Carolina scholarships. We are committed to helping college students reach their goals in any degree related to gardening. We are proud that each year we qualify as a Five Star contributor award winner for our contributions to the education of South Carolina youth.

We also encourage education in our local high school age youth. We are especially proud to offer a yearly scholarship to a 10th, 11th, or 12th-grade student to attend Camp Wildwood. This annual summer camp is held in Kings Mountain State Park and provides the opportunity for youth to discover nature and learn about the human impact on the natural balance.
